Anyone Scored a Great Deal with British Airways Avios Lately?

Started by AVFan367 2 weeks ago 4 replies 39 views
So I've been sitting on a pile of British Airways Avios and thinking it's time to put them to use. Honestly, looking for some tips on scoring a sweet deal. I've heard there are some good value redemptions if you're savvy about it.

I'm eyeing a trip to Asia or maybe South America, but I'm flexible on routes. Still figuring out how to make the most of the Avios. Does anyone have any recent success stories or strategies? Like, are there particular routes or airlines you partner with that offer better value?

I've also got a Chase Sapphire Reserve, so I could transfer points to boost my Avios if needed. Appreciate any advice on this, especially any recent experiences since I know these deals can change fast!
Check out using Avios for flights with partner airlines like Cathay Pacific or LATAM. They can be pretty good for long-haul flights to Asia or South America. Also, sometimes you find sweet spots by flying into a smaller city and then connecting. I've used Avios for off-peak flights to Asia and it was a steal compared to peak times. With your Chase points, transferring to Avios could totally boost what you can do. Just keep an eye on taxes and fees, they can add up!
I've had some luck using Avios for short-haul flights in Europe. The taxes and fees are lower, so it feels like you're getting more bang for your buck. For long-haul, definitely look into using them with partners like Japan Airlines or Qatar Airways. They can offer better value sometimes. Oh, and if you're flexible with dates, try flying mid-week to avoid peak surcharges. Have you thought about using your Chase points for those taxes and fees? Can save a bit there too.
I've heard people score great deals using Avios on Qatar Airways flights, especially to Asia. They're a oneworld partner, so it could be worth checking out. Also, keep an eye on off-peak times; sometimes you can snag a business class seat for way fewer Avios. As for South America, LATAM's a solid option. If you've got some flexibility with dates, that can help a ton. And yeah, transferring points from your Chase card could definitely give you a boost if you're close to a redemption goal.
