American Isn't Merging with United - Thoughts?

Started by ClickRoute96 1 months ago 3 replies 71 views
So I saw this blurb about American Airlines saying they're not merging with United. Apparently, there were some rumors floating around, but American shot those down pretty quick. They said they aren't talking to United and aren't interested in merging.

Honestly, I'm not too surprised. Mergers like that are massive and super complicated. Plus, with how big both airlines already are, it might just be too much to handle. I mean, remember the whole American and US Airways thing? That was a huge deal, and it took a while for everything to settle.

I'm wondering, though, what would even happen if two giants like American and United did decide to merge? Would it actually be a good thing for passengers, or would it just mean higher prices and less competition?

And do you think these rumors keep popping up because people expect more consolidation in the industry? I kind of feel like there's already been a lot of that over the years. Anyway, curious to hear what you all think about this. Are you relieved they're not merging, or do you think it could be an interesting move if they did?
Honestly, I'm relieved they're not merging. Can you imagine the chaos? Two giants like that trying to blend would probably lead to a ton of headaches for passengers. I mean, just look at the mess from the American and US Airways merger. Fewer choices and potentially higher prices don't sound great for us travelers. Plus, both airlines have their own identities and strengths. Why mess with that? I think folks are just used to seeing mergers in the industry, so they expect more. But sometimes, it's better to keep things separate.
Honestly, I'm kinda glad they're not merging. Can you imagine the monopoly they'd have? It'd probably lead to higher ticket prices and fewer choices for travelers. Plus, those kinds of mergers are just a nightmare for employees and customers. Remember the chaos with reservation systems and mileage plans when other airlines merged? It wasn't pretty. Do you think there's any airline left they'd even consider merging with without causing a similar mess?
