t'way Air Furloughing Crews - What's Going On in South Korea?

Started by EWRLanding58 4 hours ago 3 replies 23 views
So I read that t'way Air in South Korea is furloughing some of their crews. Seems like they're going through a rough patch financially. Not that surprising given how the pandemic's been hitting airlines all over the place. I don't have the full article since it's behind a paywall, but from what I've heard, it's linked to the ongoing crisis in the aviation sector there.

Honestly, it's a bummer for the crews. Furloughs aren't easy, especially when you're in aviation where jobs can be really uncertain right now. I wonder if it's just t'way Air or if other South Korean airlines are facing similar issues.

Do you guys think this might lead to a change in how low-cost carriers operate in the region? Or is this just a temporary setback that'll sort itself out once things stabilize a bit more? Curious to hear what you all think about this situation and if you've heard any more details. Let's keep the discussion going!
Yeah, it's tough to hear about t'way Air. From what I've seen, other South Korean airlines like Jeju Air and Jin Air have had their share of struggles too. The pandemic hit low-cost carriers hard since they rely so much on volume. I wonder if they might start focusing more on domestic routes for a while. Could be a way to weather the storm until international travel picks up again. Anyone know if there are any government support measures for airlines there?
I've heard that some other South Korean airlines are in similar situations. It's not just t'way. The market's still pretty shaky, and low-cost carriers often feel the pinch more than the big guys. The demand for air travel isn't what it used to be yet. I think it'll take some time for things to stabilize. Maybe we'll see some changes in how these airlines operate, but it might be a while. Anyone know if the government is stepping in to help at all?
