Hotel Loyalty Points: Worth Transferring to Airline Miles?

Started by KennethGuy52 5 hours ago 2 replies 28 views
I've been racking up a ton of hotel points lately, especially with Hilton Honors and Marriott Bonvoy. Now, I'm wondering if it's ever a good idea to transfer those points to airline miles. I fly mainly with Delta and American, and I've heard mixed things about converting points to SkyMiles or AAdvantage miles.

It seems like the transfer ratios aren't always great, but maybe I'm missing some sweet spot or strategy. Anyone have any tips or personal experiences with this? Is it better to hold onto hotel points for free nights, or can converting to miles ever offer decent value for flights? Also, do any hotel programs offer transfer bonuses that make it more worthwhile? Curious to hear if anyone's had success with this!
I've looked into this a bit myself. Generally, hotel points tend to be more valuable for booking hotel stays than converting to airline miles because of the not-so-great transfer ratios. Hilton and Marriott usually offer something like 3:1 or worse. But Marriott sometimes has transfer bonuses, which can sweeten the deal. I'd say, if you're close to a flight redemption and just need a few extra miles, it might be worth it. Otherwise, I'd stick to using points for hotel nights. Have you checked if Delta or American have any ongoing promotions that might improve the value?
