Can Chase Sapphire Reserve Points Be Used for Southwest Wanna Get Away Fares?

Started by RaymondEWR79 8 hours ago 6 replies 27 views
Alright, so I'm kinda new to this whole points and miles game, but I've been racking up Chase Sapphire Reserve points for a while. I usually fly Southwest for domestic trips 'cause of the free bags and no change fees. But I've always just paid cash for those Wanna Get Away fares.

Here's what I'm wondering: Can I use my Chase points to book those Southwest Wanna Get Away fares? I've heard mixed things about transferring points to Southwest and how that works. Is it better to use the Chase Travel Portal or is there a way to transfer directly to Southwest?

Also, if anyone's done this, was it worth it in terms of points value? I don't wanna burn through my points if it's not a good deal. Any tips or tricks would be super helpful. Thanks in advance!
You can't transfer Chase points directly to Southwest, unfortunately. But you can use the Chase Travel Portal to book flights. The points are worth 1.5 cents each with the Sapphire Reserve, which isn't too bad. Sometimes, though, the portal prices might be higher than what you'd pay on Southwest's site. I'd compare both before booking. If you find a good deal through the portal, it might be worth it. Otherwise, you might wanna just save those points for other airlines where transfers are easier.
Yeah, you can't transfer Chase points directly to Southwest. I've found using the Chase Travel Portal can be a good way to go. You get a decent value, especially with the 1.5 cents per point with the Reserve. But to be honest, I've heard the points value isn't always the best for Wanna Get Away fares. Sometimes paying cash and saving those points for more expensive flights or hotels might be better. Anyone else have different experiences?
Yeah, Chase points can't be transferred directly to Southwest. I've used the Chase Travel Portal for booking Southwest flights, and it worked out okay. The 1.5 cents per point value with Sapphire Reserve isn't too bad, but sometimes Wanna Get Away fares are so cheap that paying cash feels better. It's really about comparing the cash price to the points value. If the fare's low, maybe save the points for more expensive trips or airlines where the transfer works better.
You can't transfer Chase points directly to Southwest. I've used the Chase Travel Portal, and it's pretty straightforward. The points are worth 1.5 cents each, which is decent. But if you're set on Southwest, you might find more value using points for flights with other airlines where you can transfer directly. Just depends on how flexible you are with airlines. Also, keep an eye on Portal prices; sometimes they don't match Southwest's site exactly.
Yeah, pretty much what everyone else has said. You can't transfer them directly to Southwest. Personally, I've used the Chase Travel Portal a few times for Southwest flights. It's been decent, but sometimes the cash price through Southwest's site is cheaper than what you get through the portal. I always check both before booking. If you've got a Southwest Companion Pass, using cash might save more in the long run. Anyone else found that to be the case?
