So I was reading about these 7 prototype aircraft that were apparently revolutionary but never got past the prototype stage. It's kind of wild how that happens, right? Especially with military planes, they spend all this time and money on designs and then poof, they just don't go into production. I guess the missions they were meant for sometimes change or tech moves on.
It's not just military jets either. Commercial planes can face the same fate, which is a bummer. You'd think with all the investment they'd find a way to make it work, but I guess that's aviation for you.
I'm curious about what you guys think. Why do you think some of these prototypes, despite being brilliant, never get to fly commercially or in the military? Is it just politics, or are there other reasons like tech being outdated too quickly?
Also, do you think any of these prototypes could've changed the aviation scene if they had been produced? Always fun to think about the 'what ifs' in aviation history.
