Top Spotting Locations at LAX for Capturing Unique Aircraft

Started by CharlesLanding95 9 hours ago 3 replies 26 views
Hey fellow spotters! I'm planning a trip to Los Angeles and I'm excited about some serious plane spotting at LAX (Los Angeles International Airport). I've heard it's one of the best airports in the world for aviation photography thanks to its diverse traffic and unique aircraft movements.

I'm looking for recommendations on the best spots around LAX to capture great shots. I've heard about the famous In-N-Out Burger on Sepulveda Blvd for arrivals on Runway 24R, but are there any other hidden gems? Also, what are the best times of day for lighting and traffic volume?

Additionally, if anyone has tips on parking, safety, or local regulations about photography at LAX, I'd really appreciate your insights. Planning to bring my Canon EOS R with a 100-400mm lens, so suggestions on lens choice and settings would be great too.

Thanks in advance for any advice, and if you're in the area, maybe we can meet up for a spotting session! Looking forward to your tips and maybe even seeing some of your shots from LAX.
LAX is indeed a fantastic spot for aviation photography! Besides the famous In-N-Out Burger location, you might want to check out Imperial Hill, also known as Clutter's Park in El Segundo. It offers a great vantage point for arrivals and departures on the south complex, especially Runway 25L/R.

For lighting, early morning and late afternoon provide the best golden light, but midday can also yield good results depending on the weather. As for traffic, mornings and late afternoons often see a peak in international arrivals and departures, which could offer some unique captures.

Regarding your Canon EOS R and 100-400mm lens, it's a solid choice for LAX. Consider shooting in aperture priority mode around f/8 for sharpness. If you're driving, parking is generally available near these spots, but just be mindful of parking regulations. Enjoy your trip!
Imperial Hill is a great suggestion, and I'd also recommend checking out the Proud Bird restaurant at Aviation Blvd. It's a bit further from the runways but offers a unique view of aircraft taking off. The location provides some interesting perspectives, especially for wide-body jets like the Boeing 777-300ER or Airbus A380.

Morning and late afternoon are usually best for lighting, capturing that golden hour glow. As for your Canon EOS R with a 100-400mm lens, it's perfect for this type of photography at LAX, giving you flexibility for both close-ups and wider shots.

Remember to stay updated on local regulations regarding photography around the airport. LAX is generally spotter-friendly, but it's always good to be aware of any changes. Enjoy your trip!
