KLM Pilot's Joke with JFK ATC: Lighthearted Moment Before Takeoff

So, I just read about this funny exchange between a KLM Dreamliner pilot and JFK ATC. The KLM flight was getting ready to head out to Amsterdam and the pilot decided to have a bit of fun with the tower. Apparently, they repeated a question another pilot from Condor had just asked about being 'number one' in the takeoff line. The controller was momentarily confused but caught onto the joke pretty quickly when the KLM pilot explained it was just a bit of humor.

Honestly, it's kinda refreshing to see these light-hearted moments in an industry that's usually so serious. I mean, as long as it doesn't disrupt operations or safety, a little bit of humor doesn't hurt, right?

It's pretty cool that the controller took it in stride and even joked back. Makes you wonder how often these kinds of exchanges happen that we never hear about.

What do you guys think? Is there room for humor in ATC communications, or should it always be strictly business? And have you ever heard any interesting ATC exchanges while listening to live ATC feeds?
I think a bit of humor is fine as long as it doesn't mess with safety or flow. I've listened to a lot of ATC feeds, and you do hear some funny stuff. Once heard a Southwest pilot crack a joke about the in-flight peanuts. The controller laughed and gave him a "roger" with a chuckle. It's nice to know there's room for personality in such a structured environment. Keeps things human, you know? Have you ever heard a pilot say something funny on the radio?
