Delta Pausing JFK to SNA Flights - What's Up?

Started by Nicholas757 • 1 weeks ago • 3 replies • 22 views
So, I just read that Delta's cutting back its JFK to SNA route next month. They only brought it back like five months ago to go head-to-head with American. And now, they're putting it on pause? Kinda surprised by this move, honestly.

I get that airline schedules change all the time, but it seemed like this was going to be a solid route for them. American's sticking with it daily, though. Makes me wonder if Delta's seeing low demand or if there's something else going on behind the scenes?

Anyone have thoughts on this? Think Delta's got bigger plans, or is this just about trimming the fat where they can? And do you think American's going to benefit from this and grab more of the premium transcon market? Curious what you all think!
Yeah, it's a bit surprising. But it's all about demand vs. profitability, right? Maybe Delta underestimated the demand or the competition was just too stiff. American's been strong on that route for a while. I wouldn't be shocked if Delta's just reallocating planes to more profitable routes or focusing on their hubs. Plus, with fuel prices and everything else, airlines are tightening their operations all the time. American might pick up some extra business now, but who knows how long that'll last?
Honestly, I think Delta's just playing it safe. If the numbers aren't adding up, it's smarter to pause than to keep pouring resources into it. Maybe they're reallocating those planes to more profitable routes. American's got a loyal following on JFK-SNA, so it might just be hard to break in. Plus, with fuel prices and everything else, airlines are being super cautious. Wonder if Delta will try again later or focus more on LAX instead?
