Maldivian Pilots Arrested in UAE - What's Going On?

So I just read about two Maldivian pilots from flydubai being detained in the UAE. It sounds like they're being questioned about that crazy cockpit attack on flight FZ1073. The flight was supposed to go from Dubai to Tel Aviv but ended up in Saudi Arabia after some serious drama.

Apparently, an Omani first officer tried to attack the captain with an emergency axe. Insane, right? He wanted to crash the plane into the terminal at Ben Gurion Airport. Luckily, the crew and some passengers managed to stop him.

The UAE is digging into whether these Maldivian pilots were connected somehow. They knew the first officer from work events, but that doesn't automatically mean they were involved. So far, there's no evidence against them, just that they were detained for questioning.

I'm curious about what kind of evidence the authorities have to hold these pilots. Does anyone think this could be more about their interactions than actual involvement? Or is it just protocol to question everyone who might've had contact with the attacker?

This whole incident is wild, and I hope we get more clarity soon. What do you guys think about how they're handling the investigation?
It's crazy this even happened. I think questioning everyone who had contact with the guy is just standard procedure. Probably doesn't mean they actually suspect them of anything sinister. It's a serious situation, so they gotta cover all bases. But yeah, being colleagues doesn't instantly mean you're in cahoots. I just hope it doesn't drag out for those pilots if they're innocent. Anyone know how long these investigations typically take in the UAE?
Feels like questioning anyone who had contact with the first officer is just routine. They probably want to cover all bases. I mean, pilots know each other from work events all the time. Doesn't mean they're plotting something. I wonder how long they'll keep them for questioning. I hope the investigation wraps up soon so these guys can get back to flying if they're not involved. Anyone know if there's been any update on the Maldivian pilots' situation?
I'd bet it's just protocol to question anyone who might've had even casual contact with the first officer. They probably want to make sure there's no network or anything like that. Just because they knew him doesn't mean they're involved. I remember a buddy of mine got questioned after a coworker did something shady, and it was just to fill in the gaps. I doubt they're actually suspects unless something else comes up.
Honestly, I think it's all about being thorough. When something this serious happens, authorities are gonna question anyone with even a slight connection. It sounds more like protocol than suspicion. I mean, pilots interact at work events, but that doesn't automatically make them part of a plot. It's scary stuff, though. Makes you wonder about the security checks for crew members. How did the first officer even get to that point?
Honestly, it feels like they're just being extra careful. I mean, the stakes are high when it comes to aviation security, right? It's not unusual for authorities to cast a wide net initially. They probably want to rule out any potential connections. Remember the time when a baggage handler was questioned just for being on the same shift as someone involved in a different case? Same kind of deal, I think. Better safe than sorry.
I get why they're questioning the Maldivian pilots, but it seems a bit over the top to detain them without evidence. I mean, pilots know each other from work events, but that doesn't mean they're involved. It's like arresting someone for knowing a coworker who did something bad. Do you think this could scare other pilots from cooperating in future investigations? It might make them hesitant, even if they have nothing to hide.
