Spotting at Hong Kong (HKG) - Best Camera Settings for Night Shots?

Started by LX380 • 2 weeks ago • 2 replies • 54 views
Hey everyone, I've been trying to nail some night shots at Hong Kong International Airport (HKG) and I'm struggling a bit with the settings. I've got a Canon EOS R6 and usually shoot with a 70-200mm f/2.8 lens. But my shots either come out too noisy or too blurry.

I usually try to keep the ISO around 1600-3200, but I'm not sure if I should push it higher. Shutter speed is tricky too - I want to freeze the motion but keep the image sharp.

Anyone else shoot at HKG at night? What settings have worked for you? Also, any tips for dealing with the airport lights? They sometimes mess with the exposure. Would love to hear your experiences or any advice you have. Thanks!
Night shots can be tough! I'd say try bumping your ISO a bit higher, maybe around 4000 or 5000. The R6 handles noise pretty well, so you should be okay. For shutter speed, aim for 1/200 or faster if possible to freeze motion. Also, those airport lights can be tricky. Maybe try spot metering to focus on the aircraft itself rather than the background. Have you tried using a tripod to keep things steady? That might help with the blur too.
