So, Ping Ping and Fu Shuang, two giant pandas, are currently on a 15-hour nonstop flight from Chengdu to Atlanta on a FedEx 777F. I mean, how cool is that? Not something you hear about every day. They're off to spend a decade at Zoo Atlanta, so if you're in the area, maybe you'll get to see them.
I think it's interesting how FedEx handles such unique cargo. Pandas aren't your typical freight! I wonder what kind of special arrangements they have to make for these flights. I read somewhere that they have to keep the temperature and humidity just right to make sure the pandas are comfortable. Plus, they must have a zookeeper or two on board, right? Anyone know if they usually have someone fly with them?
Also, I guess this isn't the first time FedEx has been involved in transporting pandas. They seem to have quite the experience with it. But still, flying animals over such a long distance must be quite the operation. Any of you guys have more insights on how they handle these types of flights? Would love to hear more about the logistics behind it!
