Scored a Rare Set of British Airways Dessert Plates!

Started by Alexander1999 • 1 months ago • 3 replies • 98 views
So I just stumbled across something pretty neat at a local thrift store-a set of British Airways dessert plates! They're not your typical airline memorabilia, but these are actually marked with the BA logo and seem to be from the 80s. There are four plates, and they have this cool vintage vibe with a blue and gold trim.

Does anyone know if these are rare or have any idea about their value? I haven't seen anything like them before. I'm not even sure how they ended up at a thrift store in my small town! I'm thinking of adding them to my collection, but I'd love to hear if anyone else has similar pieces or knows more about the history behind airline china like this.

Also, any tips on how to properly care for and display them would be awesome!
Wow, that's a cool find! Airline china from the 80s can be pretty collectible, and British Airways stuff is always popular. Value can vary a lot, though. I've seen similar items go for anywhere from $10 to $50 per plate, depending on condition and demand. As for care, I'd avoid the dishwasher to keep the trim nice. Maybe display them on a shelf with plate stands to show off that vintage vibe. Anyone else got tips on preserving these?
I've got a couple of airline dishes myself, and they're a fun way to add some character to a collection. As for value, it's tricky. Some folks might pay a lot if they're hardcore BA fans. Others might not see them as worth much. It's all about finding the right buyer. For care, I'd avoid the dishwasher-sometimes those older markings can fade. Maybe display them on a shelf with plate stands? Keeps them safe and shows off that vintage look.
