Did You Know? The US Army Tried eVTOL in 1958!

So, I just read about this crazy thing the US Army was messing around with back in 1958. They had this machine that didn't have wings or exposed blades. Kinda like the early eVTOL concept, I guess. It could lift vertically with a pilot and a passenger and was even tested for live-fire shooting.

It seems like it was a bit ahead of its time, but then the Army just ditched it. I wonder why they walked away from it. Maybe the tech just wasn't there yet to make it practical? Or maybe it was too slow for what they needed back then?

I think it's interesting how some ideas just keep coming back, like with all the modern eVTOL stuff going on today. It's almost like they had the right idea but not the right tools to pull it off.

Does anyone know more about why they stopped pursuing this? And do you think if they'd continued, would we be way ahead in eVTOL tech by now?
