So, just saw this news that American Airlines is really beefing up their routes from Philly to Europe for Summer 2027. They're adding three new nonstop flights to Porto, Reykjavk, and Vienna. That's a total of 21 destinations straight from Philadelphia! Pretty wild to see how much they're investing in PHL as their main Europe hub.
The new routes to Porto and Vienna will use the Airbus A321XLR, which I think is really interesting. That plane's got some serious range for a narrow-body, right? And Reykjavk will be served by the regular A321neo. Nice to see the variety in aircraft.
I guess my question is, why do you think Philly got the nod as the big European gateway over other hubs like JFK or DFW? Is it just geography, or maybe something else going on?
Also, anyone else curious about how this will affect other airlines flying out of PHL? Wonder if we'll see a price war or something in the summer travel season. Anyway, love to hear your thoughts!
