Hey everyone, just read about this thing with the Boeing 777 where some crews don't always come to a full stop before takeoff. So instead of stopping completely, they just roll into the takeoff. Makes sense when you think about how big and heavy these planes are. Saves time and maybe even a bit of fuel, I guess.
I didn't realize this was a thing but apparently, it's pretty common. I'm assuming it's all within safety protocols, but it does make me wonder about the wear and tear on the brakes and engines. I mean, does it affect maintenance in the long run? Also, it must be pretty efficient if they're doing it enough to talk about it.
Anyone know if this rolling takeoff is something pilots prefer, or is it more about airport procedures and traffic management? I'd love to hear more about how common this is with other aircraft types too. Let me know what you guys think!
