So, I was reading about the B-1B Lancer, you know, the big bomber the US Air Force uses. It's pretty cool that it's the only supersonic strategic bomber outside Russia. But here's the kicker: it can't just go supersonic whenever it wants. Turns out it has to be under specific conditions, mostly at high altitudes.
Apparently, it's all about weight and those favorable conditions. Makes sense, I guess. Drag and fuel consumption would probably skyrocket if they tried to push it at lower altitudes or with heavier loads.
Kind of a bummer though if you think about it. I mean, having a supersonic bomber that can't always go supersonic feels a bit... limiting? But then again, it's not like they need to do it all the time.
What do you guys think? Does this limitation really affect its strategic value? Or is it more of a "nice to have" feature rather than a necessity? I'd love to hear your thoughts!
