So, it looks like Delta had a bit of a scare on one of their flights. On August 10, Delta Flight 591 from Las Vegas to Atlanta had an unauthorized Wi-Fi network pop up. Kinda weird, right? Especially since it was right after DEF CON 34, the big hacking conference in Vegas.
Delta says none of the aircraft's systems were messed with, which is a relief, but they did shut down the Wi-Fi for about half an hour just to be safe. Makes you wonder, though, how easy it is for someone to create a fake network on a plane.
I'm no expert on in-flight Wi-Fi tech, but I'm curious how these systems work and what kind of security they have. Does anyone know if this is a common thing at all, or is it just because of the timing with the hacking conference? Also, how do airlines generally handle this sort of situation?
