Spotting at Toronto Pearson (YYZ): Best Camera Settings for Winter Shots?

Hey everyone! So, I'm planning a spotting trip to Toronto Pearson (YYZ) next month, and I'm a bit worried about dealing with winter conditions. I know YYZ can get pretty snowy and overcast during that time of year. I'm using a Canon EOS R6 and a 100-400mm lens.

I'm looking for advice on camera settings to get the best shots in these conditions. How do you all handle exposure and white balance when shooting in snow? Any tips on avoiding that dull, flat look you sometimes get in overcast weather?

Also, if anyone has experience with specific spots around YYZ that work well in winter, I'd love to hear about it! Trying to make the most of the trip and capture some awesome aircraft shots despite the cold. Thanks!

Winter spotting can be tricky, but it's also rewarding. For snow, try overexposing by about 1 stop to avoid that gray look. Snow can fool your camera's meter, so keep an eye on your histogram. For white balance, use the cloudy setting or adjust it in post. Overcast skies can make colors pop, but if it looks flat, play with contrast and saturation in editing. As for spots, near Runway 23 is good, but dress warm and watch for icy patches. Good luck!

I'd bump up the ISO a bit to help with the low light on those overcast days. Maybe around 400-800 should work. Also, shooting in RAW is a lifesaver for adjusting white balance later, especially with the snow reflecting all sorts of weird colors. For spots, try the parking garage at Terminal 1. Good views from there even in winter. Just bundle up! It's gonna be chilly, but worth it for those shots.
