Crazy story out of Washington State-a Kenmore Air Turbine Otter crashed near Sucia Island, but all 11 people on board survived! This happened when the seaplane was on a short flight from Seattle to Roche Harbor. Apparently, the weather played a role, but no one's sure if it caused the crash. The pilot had to alter the flight path due to weather, and they ended up crashing against the rocky shoreline.
It's amazing that everyone made it out, especially with the plane catching fire so quickly. Big shoutout to the nearby boaters who helped rescue the passengers before emergency services arrived-real heroes.
I'm curious about what really happened. Was it just the weather, or was there some mechanical issue too? And how does a plane that old (from 1960!) still operate safely? I know they replace parts and do inspections, but still. Anyway, glad everyone's okay. What do you guys think about the safety of these older planes with turbine conversions?
