US Worried About Canada Building Swedish Gripens?

So, I read this piece about the US being kinda worried about Canada making Saab Gripens. But it seems the real issue is more about the F-35A purchase plan. The US isn't too concerned about Canada getting Gripens as long as it doesn't mess with the F-35A deal.

From what I gather, the Gripen isn't really in the same league as the F-35A, so there's no direct competition there. The US just wants to make sure Canada still buys those 88 F-35As they've planned for. Makes sense since those jets are a big deal for the US defense industry and their allies.

I think Canada looking at the Gripen is mostly about having options. The F-35A is super advanced but also comes with a hefty price tag and maintenance costs.
