Spotting at Frankfurt (FRA) - Best Lens for Capturing Departures?

Started by TarmacCDG44 1 weeks ago 2 replies 57 views
Hey folks, I'm planning a trip to Frankfurt Airport soon and I'm really stoked to catch some departures. I was wondering if anyone's got advice on the best lens to use for this? I've got a Canon EOS R and I'm debating between the Canon 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L and the 70-200mm f/2.8L.

I've heard the 100-400mm is great for distance, but not sure if the lighting will require the 2.8 aperture of the 70-200mm, especially if it's overcast. Also considering the airport's layout and how close you can get to the action. Any insights on which lens would be more versatile for FRA's spotting spots? Any hidden gems for locations there? Thanks in advance!
I'd go with the 100-400mm for departures at FRA. The extra reach really helps, especially since some spots can be a bit distant from the action. I mean, the 70-200mm is awesome for aperture and sharper in low light, but at Frankfurt, you'll appreciate the versatility of the longer lens. For locations, try the viewing platform on the Terminal 2 parking garage. It's solid for takeoffs. If it gets cloudy, just bump up the ISO a bit. Enjoy the trip!
