Shooting at Boston Logan (BOS) - Dealing with Backlit Shots?

Hey everyone, I've been trying to get some good shots at Boston Logan (BOS) lately, but I'm having a tough time dealing with backlighting, especially during the late afternoon when the sun's just in the worst position. Usually, I end up with silhouettes or blown-out skies. Super frustrating!

I'm using a Nikon D750 with a 70-300mm lens. I've tried playing around with exposure compensation and spot metering, but I'm not really happy with the results. Anyone got tips on settings or techniques to handle backlit situations better? Maybe some post-processing tricks in Lightroom or Photoshop that could help salvage some of the shots?

Also, if you know of any good spots around BOS where the lighting's more forgiving during these times, I'd love to hear about them. Thanks!

Backlighting can be a pain, especially at BOS. Have you tried shooting in RAW? It gives you more flexibility in post to recover details in shadows and highlights. In Lightroom, play around with the highlights and shadows sliders. Sometimes, lowering the highlights and boosting shadows can help. Also, try shooting when the sun's a bit lower, like early morning or later in the evening. As for spots, the Harborside Drive area sometimes offers better angles depending on the time of day. Backlighting at BOS is tricky for sure. If you're shooting in RAW, you're on the right track. In Lightroom, try using the graduated filter to bring down the exposure in the sky. That might help with the blown-out skies. And for silhouettes, adjust the shadows and blacks sliders to bring back some detail. As for a good spot, try Castle Island during the golden hour. The lighting is softer and you might get some cool angles of arrivals.

Try bracketing your shots if you haven't yet. It might help capture more detail in both shadows and highlights. Combine the exposures later in post-processing. Lightroom's HDR merge is pretty handy for that. Also, have you considered getting a polarizing filter? It won't fix everything, but it can help cut some glare and reflections, especially with all that water around BOS. There's a spot near Constitution Beach where you might get better lighting angles in the afternoon. Worth a shot!
