Found a Unique Collection of Airline Branded Matchbooks

Started by ATC514 1 months ago 2 replies 77 views
So, I was helping my grandmother clean out her attic last weekend and stumbled upon a box full of airline-branded matchbooks. I didn't even know these were a thing! There are matchbooks from TWA, Pan Am, and Northwest Orient, among others. Some of them are in mint condition, while others are a bit worn.

I'm curious if anyone here collects these or knows anything about them. Are they worth collecting, or just a quirky piece of history? Also, any tips on how to best preserve them? I'm thinking of maybe framing a few of the cooler ones, but I'm open to suggestions.

Would love to hear if anyone else has come across something similar or if there's a particular airline matchbook that's considered the holy grail for collectors!
Funny you found those! Airline matchbooks were actually a big thing back in the day. Airlines like Pan Am and TWA used them as promotional items. Not many people collect them now, but they're a cool piece of history. If you're thinking of preserving them, keeping them away from moisture is key. Framing sounds like a great idea, but maybe use some UV-protective glass to prevent fading. Ever thought about checking online forums or auction sites to see if any rare ones pop up?
