Spotting at Miami (MIA) - Dealing with Heat Haze Tips?

Has anyone here done some plane spotting at Miami International (MIA)? I was there last weekend, and man, the heat haze was crazy! I mostly shoot with my Nikon D750 and a 70-300mm lens, which usually works great, but I really struggled to get sharp images in that heat.

Does anyone have tips for dealing with heat haze, especially in such a humid and hot location like Miami? I tried shooting early morning, but it didn't seem to help much. Maybe I need to rethink my settings or try a different time of day? Any advice would be awesome!

Heat haze can be a real pain! I've had similar issues at MIA. One thing that sometimes works for me is shooting from a higher vantage point if you can find one. It helps minimize the distortion a bit by getting above the worst of the heat shimmer. Also, try keeping the sun behind you as much as possible. Sometimes shooting later in the afternoon when things cool down a tad helps too. Are there any specific spots you're shooting from?

Yeah, Miami's heat haze can be brutal. I've been there a few times and it can wreck shots. Apart from early mornings, you might want to try shooting when the sun's at a lower angle, like late afternoon. Less heat rising off the ground then. Also, shorter focal lengths can help reduce the haze effect, even if it means cropping later. Any chance you can get closer to the action? That might reduce the amount of haze in the frame.
